After the young are raised, which only takes fourteen days from hatching, the purple finch is often seen feeding in large flocks.  He loves to eat sunflower seeds if you put them in your feeder.  He also eats tree buds, blossoms, insects and fruits when they are available.  The purple finch isn't seen in Temagami in the winter when he leaves for the United States.
